OCTOBER 15,2020 LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR YOUR $500 IF YOU DID NOT FILE 2019 TAXES

Montanans may be missing out on up to $25 million in CARES Act stimulus checks. A report by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities estimates that 25,000 Montanans missed out on the automatic Economic Impact Payments (EIP) issued earlier this year. Of these, about 19,000 Montanans receive SNAP or Medicaid assistance, with a potential stimulus of $18 million. The deadline for individuals to claim their unpaid Economic Impact Payment (EIP) is October 15, 2020 using the IRS Non-Filer Tool.

Many of the people left out of the automatic payments don't make enough income to file taxes. This group includes very low-income families with children, people who have been disconnected from work opportunities for a long period, and many low-income adults not raising children in their home.

The deadline to enter a claim for payment is October 15, 2020. To sign up, people need enter the following into the IRS Non-Filer Tool:

Their name plus a mailing address and an email address. (People can ask a friend, family member, or shelter to use their address.)
Date of birth and valid Social Security number (SSN)
Bank account information, if any
Identity Protection PIN, if they've gotten one from the IRS
License or state ID, if any
Name, SSN, and relationship for each qualifying child

The IRS will use this information to confirm eligibility and then process a payment. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau put together a guide to help people resolve common issues they may encounter when claiming their stimulus payment.
